New Little House Tailored Collection by Annette Tatum!

Little House is the baby and child division of renowned bedding designer Annette Tatum. As a mother of four, Annette Tatum created the Little House line to give mothers inspirational prints and patterns that are inspired by and embrace the personality and innocence of a child. Brand new to RosenberryRooms.com is the Little House Tailored Collection which includes fresh, crisp and beautiful designs for both babies and kids’ rooms and for both boys and girls.

Here are a few of my favorites from the new line but you will definitely want to see the whole collection!

Modern and cherry, the Wave Orange Collection from Little House is the perfect addition to any girl’s nursery or bedroom. With beautiful tones of coral, peachy pink and whimsical yet modern patterns this charming girl’s bedding collection and will add just the right amount of contemporary style to any child’s room. The Wave Collection also comes in shades of blue offering just the right touch of maritime style to your son’s nursery.

And don’t forget the matching Moses Basket!

Also new to the Little House Tailored Collection is the Cane Petal bedding. Available in both crib and kid’s bedding sizes, this geometric and modern collection was inspired by pink roses entwined on a beautiful bamboo trellis.

This collection also comes in gorgeous royal blue!

For a lighter, more whimsical style, the Cloud Majestic collection is another one of my favorites. This collection from Little House, inspired by a clear blue sky, is light and airy and boasts whimsically drawn clouds complemented by a stripe and key pattern. It’s available in crib, twin and full/queen sizes as well.

Design Inspiration – Summertime Pink!

Annette Tatum, talented designer and Rosenberry Rooms Creative Contributor, shares with us some design inspiration using Summertime Pink! Annette finds her inspiration from all the fun things that represent Summer, from ice cream to flowers to party balloons and treats! She pulls from these inspiring elements to create her beautiful designs. Who knew ice cream could inspire design?!

Summer is here and what says summer better than bright pinks and corals. Big bright balloons, vibrant watermelon, and sweet ice cream cones remind us of summer. It also serves as great inspiration for choosing the color for a little girls bedroom or nursery. Some of us are summer brights…others need a more muted version. What ever your tone, step into the colors of happy…

Coral can be a perfect solution to those of us who prefer a different twist on pink.

Fruity and pink from nature’s own palette…choose fun watermelon and cool sorbet for your room accents.

Sweet and sugary are the best of the pinks. Like pale pink frosted cupcakes…Pretty in pink is a classic.

A Simplified Nursery with Annette Tatum!

There is something to be said for a clean, sophisticated and simple design. In all the excitement of bringing home a new addition, sometimes less is more when it comes to designing a nursery (less work too!). Truly, the main “focus” of the room is your sweet baby anyway, right? A simplified nursery design is something that talented designer and one of our Creative Contributors, Annette Tatum, knows all about. She even has her own line of Simplified Nursery Crib Bedding sets which includes a simple white bumper and coordinating crib skirt as well as your choice of crib sheet. The ability to swap out crib sheets is such a quick and easy way to give the nursery a fresh new look without spending a lot of money.

For those of you that would prefer not to use a bumper, Annette also created her collection of Perfect Fit Crib Sheets! These sheets can be used on the crib with or without a bumper (your choice!) because each one has a ruffled or piped edge designed to give your crib the aesthetic look of a bumper without the need for one.

Annette tells us, “Recently our customers have expressed an interest in a new look for the crib, a clean and modern style, minus the traditional bumper. I am constantly trying to improve and refine our products, so I went back to the design studio to drum up some ideas how to accommodate this new trend in baby bedding. The result was the newest edition to our line, the Perfect Fit Crib Sheets. I love the new twist on our patterned sheets. This is a great way to still keep our beautiful patterns together as a collection and offer just the crib sheet as a way to dress the crib. With every new mom having her own style and product choices, making up new ways to “dress” your new baby’s nest is what we love to do.”

Boho Style Brights for Kid’s Rooms

Annette Tatum, author of The Well Dressed Home, is recognized as a leading designer of quality fabrics with enduring appeal. We are so glad she is on our team of Creative Contributors and that she shares her wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to designing for children’s rooms. Today’s post from Annette is all about mastering the bohemian style and how to make it work in a child’s room. This style is very popular in the design world and is the perfect choice for creating a unique and bold design that is sure to stand out from the rest. Enjoy and be inspired!

There is something about the mix and match style known as bohemian that I think is perfect for the child. The lack of planning that results in style perfect. The rag tag, go with the flow sort of philosophy. Translate that into the bedroom and you have a room full of color and personality. I love Boho for the bedroom. The colors that are associated with summer and free spirit are perfect for the place where children dream.

Ikat prints mixed with off-beat stripes and tile patterns all are elements of the boho style. Turquoise, coral, hot pink and yellows all work in a caravan of color.

Add color to the bedroom with mix and match color stories for boy and girl to create a happily shared space.

Ideal for the boy on the go, a room with a color palette to grow with. Grounded blues balance with limes and turquoise making the boy’s room less serious and more pattern friendly.

Softened and toned down, the bohemian style is perfect for the nursery. Large backdrops of color are perfect accents to complimentary crib bedding.

Bold walls of color surround the nursery and set the stage for the room in transition. From the crib to the bed, the bohemian style leaves room for one to grow.

Design Tips from Annette Tatum!

Our newest addition to the list of Very Rosenberry Creative Contributors is leading designer, Annette Tatum! We are so thrilled to have her on board and excited for the expert design tips and advice she can provide to inspire you and help you create your dream nursery or kid’s room. She demonstrates an understanding that the nursery should be a place of comfort and peace as well as simplicity and style. Drawing from her experiences as a Mother of 4, Annette’s designs are both unique and practical and as you will see below, she seeks out all forms of inspiration and encourages you to do the same.

Enjoy!

This is my first post for Rosenberry Rooms as a creative contributor and I am so excited to be part of their ongoing blog. Rosenberry Rooms has been a terrific retailer & partner for our line of bedding and other home decor products for years.  We have enjoyed a collaborative effort on the product front so I am thrilled to now be part of their creative world. Most of my design philosophy comes from my own lifestyle choices. With four children I have a busy life and have little time to really devote to creating the “perfect” home. Too many ideas are floating around my house with lots of likes and dislikes coming from the other household members which means that I have to find inspiration in other places than design magazines. One of the most obvious ways for me to find clues as to what I or someone might like is to look in their closet. Using fashion choices as an approach to home design often helps give one a starting point to begin choosing color pallets, textures and other elements. Accessorizing our home like we accessorize our outfits can be approached in the same way.

When I start creating a new collection, like our Ikat Pink bedding for Little House, I found plenty of this season’s trends telling me that this was “hot” on the runway and a more subtle version might work well in the nursery. Remember that the whole room does not have to be on “trend”. The crib is the perfect way to accent a room with fun colors and patterns to create a certain “look”.

When designing a nursery that is “all girl”, the perfect palette is pink for me. Nothing is more direct and to the point than a pink bedding palette in a classic motif. I love this Brocade Peony collection. It is one of our best sellers in that it never seems to go out of “fashion”. As a classic pattern it can have a vintage feel, yet is fresh with a modern softness.

Another way to really create a feeling of fun in a child’s room is to bring on a punch of color. Adding color adds personality to a room. Inspired by happy colors, reflective of an endless summer, work well for a young girl. Accents of lime green combined with hot raspberry and pale pinks mixed with hints of turquoise all perfectly match.

Meet Designer Annette Tatum!

“Uniqueness is rare.” This is the statement that stood out to me most in our recent interview with leading designer, Annette Tatum. In this industry of children’s bedding designers, it’s hard to find designs that stand out from the rest but that can still be considered timeless. Annette Tatum establishes this balance perfectly in her Annette Tatum and Little House collections of baby, kid’s and even adult bedding as well as children’s furniture. Her designs demonstrate an understanding that the nursery should be a place of comfort and peace as well as simplicity and style. Drawing from her experiences as a Mother of 4, her pieces are both practical and motivated and as you will see below, she seeks out all forms of inspiration. This innate ability to find inspiration in so many different things is a truly special talent that separates the good from the great. Now, I will let Annette do the talking….so enjoy and be inspired!

What inspired you to become a designer and start a business?

I never really had a plan to start a business. I think it grew out of necessity to have some creative outlet for myself while raising young children. I knew that working full time would be difficult and therefore transitioned over time from working for other companies to finally branching out on my own. I had studied industrial design in college so I knew that I wanted to “make” products. My business started out as a simple request from my sister for pajamas and flourished into other products all surrounding textiles.

What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

A lot of my time these days is spent on management, projections and scheduling product launches.  I love it when I have time in the day to work on graphics, new prints, and catalog layouts; really any part of the creative side of the business makes me happy.  I have a team that helps me create, and I could not do it without them. The collaboration with my entire team is what makes it all worthwhile.

Do you have any advice for other working moms?

Try to pick something you love because you are going to spend a lot of time doing it. There is so little extra time in a working mom’s life that what you do is very important. I also feel that if you are passionate about what you do it makes the process far easier. Especially when you have to work late hours, take care of your family and find enough time to still take care of you.

What is your most memorable design project?

I would have to say there have been many. I think my most memorable project to date would be the making of the mannequins that are now part of my book.  The whole process of producing a book and then a 3D exhibit to further develop the concept of the book was a rewarding creative exercise.

If you could design a room for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I would love to have designed anything with the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen. His over the top style and execution are so inspiring. His collections were and still are like art.

What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?

I am still inspired by the movie Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola, the images and the costumes are over the top.  I love Paris; there is always inspiration to be found there. I recently was walking around my local flea market when I came across a new vendor with amazing textiles…it was inspiring, anything one of a kind is inspiring these days. I find especially in this world of ever changing ideas it is hard to sometimes find inspiration. Uniqueness is rare.

I enjoy talking about inspiration on my blog Annette Tatum – The Well Dressed Home.  I think seeking out inspiration has to be a constant for us creative types.

Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?

I love Mexico. In my youth I spent a lot of time there and fell in love with the simple, slow paced nature of the country. Mexico is probably the first place I fell in love with bold color. The textiles the architecture and the people all embrace bright colors in their lifestyle. I love the interior of Mexico with all its history and charm as well as the beaches and the idyllic seaside lifestyle of small fishing villages and pueblos.

Where in the world are you dying to go next?

I want to go to India. My children are finally old enough that I could afford to take a long trip and not stress. The idea of India and its vast array of inspiration has made India a travel destination for years. I would love to discover all there is about India from textiles to architecture. I think I would love India.

What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?

I love all the selections for wall decals on your site. I like the range you offer and there is something for everyone. From the traditional monogram style logo for the wall, to animals and other themes. Retro rockets… love them for boys.

Oh, and I love our bedding. I think the Little House and Annette Tatum bedding collections are a perfect match for the Rosenberry Rooms customer.

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?

Right now we are working on some new items for Annette Tatum Nursery, and we also have two other collections set for launch in 2012. We are developing a signature line of furniture and there will be a lot of new items for the home coming in 2012 too.

Now, just for fun:

Favorite Food: I love dark chocolate with sea salt. I have to have a piece every day.

Favorite TV Show: Anything documentary…

Favorite Movie: Top three: Marie Antoinette. Love Actually and My Life as a Dog and one more, Alice in Wonderland.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Long runs and farmers open market on Sundays.

Favorite Musician/Band: I like all kinds of music. Even country. Hard for me to pick a favorite…
