Meet Leslie Newton, creator of the gorgeous designer diaper bags from Timi & Leslie, designed for the "woman in every mom"!

Wearing a diaper bag no longer means sacrificing fashion when you have a timi & leslie diaper bag! Their brand of chic, hold-everything styles come in vibrant shades and durable fabrics that satisfy new moms and fashionistas, alike. We recently had the pleasure of interviewing Leslie Newton, creator of timi & leslie, who feels that her bags are for “the woman in every mom.” Don’t you love that? Read on to learn more about Leslie and how timi & leslie got started as well as see some of the gorgeous diaper bag designs! Be sure and check out the entire collection on RosenberryRooms.com!

How would you define the Timi & Leslie style philosophy?

We make products that are beautiful, stylish, fashionable but highly functional. Once you have a baby, it’s a miracle if you even can get a shower in every few days, let alone look like you haven’t slept in your clothes. So we do our best to give moms a diaper bag that will make them feel stylish, as well as keep them super organized, since this will be their major accessory for a good year and 1/2! We want moms to be able to use their bags long after the diaper stage, too!

What inspired you to become a designer and start a business?

Well, I was always making things for fun and giving them as gifts. I started making simple handbags for friends, and then made a diaper bag for someone. I got such a great response, that I tried to see if I could sell them to stores. One thing lead to another and it just took off.

Why did you choose to design diaper bags?

Besides the fact that I initially made one for a friend, at the time, back in 1999 there weren’t stylish diaper bags. There was a huge void in the market. It seems every diaper bag company says that, but back then, there literally was a void. I did my first show at ENK back then and was the only diaper bag company there. I had to put up signs all over my booth letting people know they were diaper bags because everyone thought I was just selling cool bags.

What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

The creative process is my favorite part. When I have a creative explosion and ideas just keep coming to me. I know I’m on to something when I get both a clear vision in my head of what I want to create, combined with a strong gut instinct that it’s going to be received well. What is most rewarding is when I get to connect to other moms, whom I don’t know, who tell me how much they love my bags and how great the bags make them feel. Can’t beat that!

If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection, what would it be?

Oh my favorites change ALL the time! I would say probably some of my first bags that were made from limited, vintage fabrics hold a soft spot in my heart. I also, like everyone, love the Charlie Bag….and the tag-a-long, too.

What sets Timi & Leslie apart from other designers in your industry?

Well, I used to also have a handbag collection and sold to stores like Henri Bendel, Nordstroms, Bloomingdales, Anthropologie, Betsey Johnson, the list goes on, and with handbags, you have to be very on trend. It was easy to translate that into diaper bags. No one else really stays as current and on trend as we do with what’s happening in fashion and handbags. And we have really developed our groove in combining very fashionable bags, that are also very functional. I think our bags look the most “handbag-ish” (I just invented that word!!) and the least like diaper bags.

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

Well we recently released four new styles, and they are getting a great response so that makes me happy!

Now…Just for Fun

Favorite Food – Hmm..this always changes. Currently this grilled veggie and pesto sandwich from a restaurant near my office. And of course, chocolate, in any form but ice cream. (Go figure?)

Favorite TV Show – Downton Abbey

Favorite Movie – Waiting For Guffman

Favorite Weekend Activity – Anything fun with my daughter and husband

Favorite Band – The Pixies

Meet Jen Tetreault, founder of Passion for Parties and check out some of her amazing party ideas and designs

This week’s Creative Contributor is Jennifer Tetreault, founder of Passion for Parties! If you can’t guess by her company name what Jen loves, it’s throwing parties (especially for kids) and providing inspiration for other party hosts and hostesses. She didn’t tell me this specifically, but I really think cake-decorating might be her number 1 talent. Take a look at some of Jen’s parties below and you will see what I mean! Read on to learn more about Jen and her passion for parties and be sure to check out her website for some great inspiration!

What inspired you to become a party stylist and ultimately to found Passion-for-Parties?

My kids were definitely the driving force behind my decision. I was working a full-time job and pretty much spending all of my earnings on childcare…while someone else got quality time with my kids. I’ve always had a passion for crafting, decorating, and really anything that allowed my creative juices to flow. My hubby and I talked long and hard about it, and finally decided that trying to turn my hobby into a business was worth a shot. Five years later, here we are!

What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

Providing inspiration is by far the most rewarding part of my work. Nothing compares to the notes and pictures that I receive telling me how my ideas played a small part in creating a special memory that will last a lifetime. That is just heart-filling for me. It reassures me that I’m doing exactly what I was meant to do.

Do you have any advice for other working moms?

Hmmm, this is a hard one! Finding a good balance between work and home is a big challenge. I suppose my best advice for other moms would be to remember what’s really important. Work will always be there, and our kids will be grown and gone before we know it. Remember to take some time each day to unplug from work and reconnect with your family.

What is your most memorable party design project?

Definitely my Cake Boss-inspired party! I had such a great time styling everything for that event and it all just came together perfectly! There were so many cool elements included in that party, but my all-time favorite was the DIY ruffled aprons. They were beyond adorable!

If you could style a party for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I’d love to style parties for children in need. I think it would be incredibly rewarding to provide them with an experience that they otherwise might not have been privileged enough to have.

What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?

Oh, boy! I actually have a notebook that I jot things down in because I am inspired by so many things. My inspiration comes from everywhere…colors, a décor item, a design on a paper napkin…you name it. I see possibilities everywhere!

Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?

My husband and I got married in Key West and then took a cruise for our honeymoon to Jamaica and Grand Cayman. It was the trip of a lifetime!

Where in the world are you dying to go next?

Somewhere overseas is calling my name. Ireland, Italy, or Australia sound wonderful!

What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?

The art shop is my favorite section to browse through, and I really love the light fixtures, too!

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?

Yes! I just opened a new division of Passion-for-Parties.com…a stationery shop! This is where we offer custom invitations and printable party collections. The shop is brand new so there are only a few collections listed right now, but I’m busy behind the scenes designing new lines, and I’m adding new designs every week!

Suzani, Ikat, Damask oh my! We define these popular pattern trends for you so you can become the expert in kid's room design!

Damask, Suzani, Toile, Ikat. No, those are not the newest celebrity baby names, they are some of the most popular patterns in children’s bedding trends! Today I wanted to break down some of these fashionable designs for you so next time you are shopping for crib bedding, rugs, furniture, you name it, you will appear as a professional interior designer clearly aware of the latest in fabric styles.

Let’s start with one of my favorites, CheVron. Yes, I wrote it like that on purpose because all you have to remember with Chevron is the letter V. Believe it or not, this style is inspired by the badges worn in the armed forces to signify a person’s rank based on the number of V or chevron-shaped stripes. (fun fact!) Chevron can be crisp clean lines like in the fabric below, or a little more abstract as seen in the zig zag Trina Turk pillows. This pattern is taking over in all aspects of decor for the home from lamp shades to coffee mugs to bedding, you can’t go wrong!

Ikat is a big up and comer in the bedding industry as well. This pattern features a tie-dyed look and feel creating a intricately designed multicolored fabric. Annette Tatum’s Ikat crib bedding is gorgeous and comes in multiple color combinations to go with any nursery theme.

Suzani is another popular pattern you’ve probably also seen a lot of recently, you just weren’t sure it fell under a certain name. Suzani is a type of embroidered and decorative tribal textile. When I think of Suzani, I think of medallion-style art. Take a look at some of the prints below and you’ll see what I mean.

Finally, there is the ever popular Damask (pronounced dam-esk). This pattern is inspired by the Damask rose and features a wavy, floral repeating pattern.

So, now that you are a pattern expert, you can have some fun designing your nursery or kid’s room and rest assured your room is sporting the latest in bedding trends! Find all these styles and more at RosenberryRooms.com.

Want to do something special for Valentine’s Day but not feeling very crafty? This super easy “how to” from Lynlee Beckett of Lynlee’s Petite Cakes is the perfect idea! Lynlee walks us through the process of creating adorable Valentine cupcake toppers out of fondant. You are sure to wow your Valentine, party guests and/or your kids this holiday with these loveable treats!

Supplies you will need:

• Red and white fondant

• Rolling pin

• Oval cutters (I utilized two sizes)

• Heart and butterfly-shaped cutters

• Large square cutter

• Food safe brush & water

• Round tip (in this case, I used Wilton tip 12)

• Fondant or pizza cutter

• Small spatula

• Modeling stick (or toothpick or any “pointy” tool you might have in the kitchen)

Start out by rolling some red fondant into a ball and pressing it down on a flat surface until it is approximately 1/2″ thick. Cut out an oval shape with the larger cutter and begin to pinch the shape on both sides to create the sides of the mouth.

At the same time, use your fingers to soften the perimeter of the mouth to round it out. With a heart cutter, position the top in the middle of the fondant lips and lightly press to make an indentation. Create a small separation at the top of the lips with the small spatula and finish the kissing lips with the modeling stick through the center.

You can repeat the process with the smaller oval cutter to make small lips for blown kisses!

Moving on to the heart with wings topper, roll out some more red fondant (approx. 1/4″ thick) and cut out a heart shape with the cutter and put it aside.

Roll out some white fondant and utilize the butterfly cutter to punch out the shape to utilize as wings. With the spatula, cut the butterfly shape in half and space the two halves so that they would contour the heart. Trim off the excess with the heart shape cutter. Brush some water on the wings and attach them to the red heart and allow it to dry.

For the quill heart decor, roll out more white fondant about 1/8″ thick (you can see I like to use rolling pin guide rings to keep it consistent and flat across) and cut out a strip about 1/4″ wide with the rolling cutter. I measured about 4 inches and then turned it upside down and added some water with the brush to both ends of the strip.

Begin to roll both sides inward until they come together, while positioning the bottom into a point for the bottom of the heart. Add a bit more water to attach the two quilled sides together.

Attach it to the winged heart by brushing water to the back and placing it in the center of the red heart.

You can play around with the quilling process and make additional hearts in all different colors and sizes!

For the love letter and envelope, roll out white fondant 1/8″ thick, cut out a square with the cutter and then cut it in half once again.

Turn the square cutter on a 45 degree angle and position it over the fondant rectangle, making sure one side is right up to the edge of the shape to make the fold of the envelope. Trim off the excess to make the envelope even. Then roll out some red fondant and repeat steps to cut it to scale with the envelope, but avoiding the indentation step.

With the remaining red fondant, punch out a small circle with the size 12 tip and start pinching it together at one end to create the bottom of the heart. With the spatula, create an indentation for the top of the heart and glue it onto the envelope. Brush some additional water to the bottom of the envelope to attach to the red letter.

Hoping these cupcakes and toppers will help you send all your love to your Valentines and make their day all that much sweeter!!! ♥
