Gino’s Black & White Nursery

Post by Samantha Riccioli

I am about 30 days away from giving birth to my first child, Gino, and wanted to create a chic, grown-up black and white nursery that reflects my modern style. I found the wallpaper first and everything else just came together naturally for me. photo-2-2photo 2-1I love black and white and knew that whether the baby was a boy or a girl, the room would look like this. I’m excited to spend time in a room that I, myself, would live in!photo-3-2photo-1-4 DSC07674photo-3-3

Colorful Kids’ Playroom

We love Houzz! How could you not? It is a wonderful place to share and collect interior design ideas as well as save all of your favorite home decor accessories! User bbbmunro shares an upstairs attic converted to bright and cheerful space where the kids can play!

It all starts with a pop of the color palette which include Sherwin Williams Essential Gray SW6002, Sherwin Williams Kumquat SW6648 (orange), and Sherwin Williams Cooled Blue SW6759. These colors combine to create a modern, gender neutral environment!

Contemporary Kids

The wide desk provides plenty of space for arts and crafts or even a little study time! The Nevis Dining Chair adds an extra splash of color and looks great when paired with the desk! We also love the pop from the FLOR carpet tiles. The “Rake Me Over” collection is used in Dusk (gray), Breeze (blue) and Clementine (orange).

Contemporary Kids

We love all of the storage space created with numerous built-in cubbies and shelves! The canvas storage boxes by 3 Sprouts are seen in the Kangaroo, Peacock, Mouse and Beaver editions are an organized parent’s dream!

Meet Interior Designer Shea McGee

shea_blogStudio McGee (formerly Shea McGee Design) began after years of friends and neighbors knocking on her door begging for help designing their spaces. What began simply as a passion has since grown into a successful design business serving residential clients in Orange County, California.

We first saw Shea’s gorgeous work on Style Me Pretty where she sat down and gave a little insight behind her absolutely beautiful San Clemente home. Of course, we could not help but instantly fall in love with the nursery of her little girl Wren! The beautiful images taken by photographer Brooke Palmer sincerely capture the clean and calming atmosphere of the nursery. We jumped at the chance to interview Shea to learn even more about her style and inspiration.
Shea McGee Design_PR1_18.21. How would you define the style/philosophy of your work?
My goal is to help people fall in love with their homes. I have found that when people love where they live, they tend to clean often, spend more time at home and entertain friends and family. I like to discover what my clients love and put my twist on that style. I like to design fresh, clean spaces that mix eras and price points. My design philosophy is very evident in my daughter’s nursery as we mixed an antique gilt mirror with a mid-century modern crib and kept everything light and bright.

Check out how cute the dolls by BlaBla look sitting close to the oh so stylish Moroccan pouf!
SideBySide2. What were your goals and inspiration for Wren’s nursery?
I wanted this room to feel clean, bright and pretty. It was important to me that the nursery was beautiful, but also comfortable. I already had the wallpaper picked out long before I knew we were having a girl. After that ultrasound, I ordered it immediately! As a designer, I am always seeing new furniture and ideas and sometimes it is easy to get distracted. I had to constantly tell myself to stay focused! I mixed and matched the furniture for a more eclectic feel. The glider is a linen “look” fabric that cleans very easily and the plush rug feels amazing underfoot.

I believe every room should have a few personal touches – I danced for many years and I’m hoping the tutu painting inspires Wren in a small way. The gold mirror above the crib was a lucky antique find that I have had for several years.
Shea McGee Design_PR1_193. What is your favorite part of your daily work? When you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
I love that every day holds new creative opportunities to transform rooms into something that feels happy and inspired. No two rooms are the same, and that is a fun challenge. However, the most rewarding part of my job is that I can work from home and take Wren with me on all my shopping excursions.

With amazing work like this nursery, it’s no wonder all of Shea’s friends wanted her design help. From the wallpaper to the furniture choices we are absolutely loving this nursery! What piece or part of this nursery is inspiring you?

Teal & Pink Nursery Design!

Another makeover for our Raleigh, NC store is complete! We recently upgraded a portion of the room from a traditional girls’ nursery design to a stunning, modern nursery vignette with an electrifying teal and pink color palette. This bold color scheme was accented with crisp whites and metallic coppers that perfectly complement the brights. wide shot edited

It adds color, dimension and the perfect accent wall to set off the modern decor. This color scheme would work perfectly for both a baby or teenage girl’s room.

Design Reveal: Magical Shared Bedroom by Sissy + Marley!

Our latest “Real Room” comes to us from the brilliant ladies at SISSY + MARLEY, the New York City-based boutique. They took a soft color palette of greys, whites, and pinks mixed with bright metallic accents to create a magically modern shared nursery. Delicate enough for growing Avery and modern enough for her baby brother Sebastian, this room has adorable details and modern accents fit for any dynamic duo.

The contemporary furniture pieces by Oeuf are the perfect staple pieces for the room. The toddler bed, crib and dresser ground the space in modernity.

Marissa

MarissaThe bed is lined with a stripe patterned sheet set while the crib is lined with a sporadic dot patterned sheet set. These pieces provide the simplicity needed to build an exciting space around.

Marissa

MarissaThe cloud pillow in the crib subtly continues to carry the dreaminess of the room while the mustache pillow gives a quiet nod to the little man of the room. Avery’s knit doll is close by providing a pop of pink to keep the balance of this gender-neutral space equal.

MarissaThe real fun begins with all of the metallic accents in the room.  The metallic pouf is a small, but effective way to add a dash of luminosity to the room. The pouf finds comfort in being paired with the spectacular silver star accent wall which instantly gives the room its ‘wow factor’. The sconces on the accent wall are by Jonathan Adler.

MarissaThis truly is a room where imagination is fostered. Whimsical fantasy is in full effect, but achieved in a sophisticated way that any modern parent would appreciate. All these kiddos need to do for fun is look to the stars.

A Boy’s Explorer Bedroom!

This week’s “Real Room” comes to us from Rosenberry Rooms‘ owner Susie Fougerousse! She created this World Explorer room for her 7 year old son, Sebastien. Planes, cars, boats, maps and pictures of nature are sprinkled throughout the room, to create a subtle and understated theme that can grow with her son and be easily updated over the years.

Susie chose classic colors and traditional basics for the bedding and furniture, and included decorative accents like the vintage airplane pendant and colorful wall art to add personality to the space.

The Young America Kudos Crib in a vibrant finish is a great center point for this colorful space. It’s accented by the bright red of the rug and the yellow of the Doodlefish Cottage Glider and Recliner. For lighting, Carrie chose the Raindrops Pendant in Aqua by Oilo.

I love the creative use of chevron on the wall, tied together with the crib bedding fabric, curtains and throw pillow. The oversized crayons are actually giant banks! Based on the photos above the crib, I’m guessing Mom & Dad are welcoming a future baseball fan into the world. ;)
