What inspired you to be an interior designer and event planner?
I’ve always been extremely interested in interior design. As a child, I was constantly rearranging my room – moving furniture and hanging various pieces of decorations. This passion for creative spaces continued to develop and transform throughout my life.
Fast-forwarding 5 years: while working at a church in my hometown, I had the opportunity to work on some interior design projects and events. These specific opportunities confirmed that I truly had a love and niche for interior design and event planning. After receiving a lot of positive feedback and encouragement from my husband, I decided to start my own design business. I decided to name the business J.S. Studio Designs after my great grandmother Julia Smith whose life and legacy still inspires me today.
What is your favorite part of your daily work…when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
Having the opportunity to share my passion with others around the world is very rewarding. What started out as a hobby and creative outlet has lead to a career that I could have never imagined.
What is your most memorable design project or event?
My most memorable event would be my wedding last year. I had a great time planning and staging the event. My husband and I received a lot of compliments.
If you could decorate a room or plan a party for anyone in the world, who would it be?
This is a hard question, as I would love to decorate for a number of people. If I had to choose two couples I would have to say Barack & Michelle Obama and Prince William & Kate.
What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?
I find inspiration in almost anything from a movie, commercial to a local craft show. Most recently, I have been inspired by the stories and testimonies of successful entrepreneurs. Their stories have provided me with encouragement and inspiration to dream big and chase that very dream.
Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?
My husband and I love to travel to the Caribbean. We pick a different island each year to travel to.

I would love to do a tour of Italy. My husband and I are planning a trip next year.
