Reusable and repositionable, these fabulous decals are every parent’s dream and perfect for every child’s imagination. Not to mention their modern design and eclectic pattern combinations will look lovely in your home! We had the pleasure of interviewing one of the designers, Peta, as she tells us about her inspiration for the line and her hope that you will fall in love with mae as well.
How would you define the Love Mae style philosophy?
Mae loves the idea of taking a theme or a subject that children love and presenting it in a way that mums and dads can retain the style and colour palette of their home. Its great that we can appeal to and satisfy all ages and styles out there.
What inspired you to become a designer and start a business?
It just seems natural for me to live this way. I’m very adamant that dreams are meant for achieving.
Why did you choose to design children’s fabric wall decals?
Ah this is the strange bit. We didn’t set out to do this. It kind of just happened. We originally wanted to do wall paper, lampshades and cushions, hence the patterns in the detail. We were testing materials when we came across the adhesive fabric. It’s such fun to know that we were one of the first companies to release products using this amazing product.
What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
That I have the ability to make so many people happy… staff, customers and our stores who stock our collection. I like to think that I can encourage positive interaction and therefore leave people feeling happy.
If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection, what would it be?
I don’t hide the fact that I have favorites. I must admit they change with each new collection, as I can get very excited by new things. Under the sea girly is a huge hit in my family at the moment as I have 2 girls aged 4 and 6. It is one of our newest designs. My girls love making up mermaid nighttime stories before they go to sleep. These tend to go on a little too long when they are trying to stay up longer. I love that they think I don’t realize.
What sets Love Mae apart from other designers in your industry?
Mae’s colours. I love them so much… a great blend of vintage and nostalgic tones. Good colour is really hard to achieve sometimes, especially in the printing industry. You have to really dig your heals in until they are perfectly achieved.
Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?
I’m really loving feathers and peacocks at the moment. Hopefully we can have something like this added to our new collection.
Now…Just for Fun
Favorite Food – Mexican – soft shelled fish tacos to be exact. I love fresh foods and salads splashed with lime juice. Who could resist that.
Favorite TV Show – I have to be honest I don’t watch tv. I will swap this for favorite pastime… pinterest.com. I’m seriously addicted. I have a personal account and an account for Love Mae. I’m a very visual person and I use this to communicate with the people I work with… or my husband for our renovations.
Favorite Movie – Well its more my favorite book. Like water for chocolate. I haven’t read it in such a long time, but it is a timeless piece. They did a really great job of the movie too if you prefer that style of relaxation.
Favorite Weekend Activity – We love the beach so spend many a weekend relishing in it… we can pass days swimming, finding shells, walking our dog and surfing. Australia has amazing beaches.
Favorite Band – Oh dear, this is too difficult to answer. I’m a huge music fan and often go to live gigs and festivals. My tastes range dramatically and cover almost all genres. To mention a few Tom Waits, City and colour, Zee Avi, Florence and the Machine, yeah yeah yeah, the XX, Primus, Finley Quaye, Dirty Three…. I really could go on!
