Meet the Ladies of Sissy + Marley!

For those of you who haven’t already heard of these ladies, I am so thrilled to introduce to you the talented team of New York City-based boutique baby planner and concierge, SISSY + MARLEY! I started out as a huge fan of their nursery designs and just recently became aware that they do MUCH more than just design! A mother and daughter team made up of Mom, Diana, and sisters Chelsea and Rachel, these fabulous ladies help families prepare for welcoming baby in every way you could ever need. With a passion for all things beautiful and a treasure trove of knowledge for everything baby and beyond, the ladies of SISSY + MARLEY have really made a name for themselves and I’m so excited to share with you a little more about how they got started, some advice they have for other working moms as well as photos of their beautiful designs. Enjoy!

What inspired you to become the ultimate baby planners and ultimately to found SISSY + MARLEY?

Starting a business together and combining our diverse careers and similar passions had long been a dream of ours. The dream did not become a reality until we (sisters Chelsea and Rachel) had children of our own around the same time. We became determined to do it all…balance successful careers, busy social calendars, and tendencies for perfectionism, all while making room for baby. Obsessed with creating the perfect nursery, finding the safest and stateliest gear, creating the ultimate closet for our newborns, and finding chic baby announcements, we scoured the world over and then some. A daunting task! It quickly became clear that many other busy career women were similarly interested in creating beautiful beginnings for their little ones but didn’t know where to start.

And so, together with our incredibly talented mother Diana, SISSY+MARLEY was born. We offer virtual services to clients around the world and full-service to clients in the New York area.

What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

Helping expectant and new mommies make their design dreams and party planning needs a reality makes all the hard work and late nights worth it. And, since we left our corporate and full-time jobs, we now have the luxury to be home for the things that matter most to us…pick-ups from school, play dates in the park and dinner with the family at night.

What is your most memorable project, party or design?

Each project becomes our baby so it is too hard to pick a favorite.  We have so much fun dreaming up every space we design, party we plan and new project we take on.

Do you have any advice for other working moms?

Don’t try to do it all, just do your best.  [We are still working on this one ourselves!]

If you could work with anyone in the world, who would it be?

We have always wanted to work with each other so in many ways we are living the dream. We have been so lucky to work with clients all over the world and our reach is growing. This has been a nice and unexpected surprise. And if Sarah Jessica Parker or Claire Danes called upon our decorating or party planning services we would be over the moon.

What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?

We recently returned from a week at the beach together with our children and husbands. This much needed break allowed us to recharge and spend time dreaming up some big ideas.

Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?

Collectively, we love to visit the coast of Italy. The casual and chic vibe, the amazing food and the breathtaking views make this one of our favorite places ever.

Where in the world are you dying to go next?

We would love to visit Marrakech to soak up the culture and shop the amazing textiles, carpets and local objects. Sensory overload in the best way possible.

What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?

RosenberryRooms.com is chock full of all the brands we love, admire and work with all the time.  Too many favorites to list!

What makes Rosenberry Rooms continually stand out among the rest is the impeccable and consistent customer service our clients receive.

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?

Decorating is all about the details and often we can’t seem to get our hands on just the right accessories, bedding, and wall coverings to complete a room. We are in the process of collaborating with designers we adore to create these goodies for children’s spaces. Stay tuned!

Pink Pajamas and Pancakes Party!

Who doesn’t love staying in their pajamas all day and having a delicious breakfast complete with pancakes? No matter your age, pancakes are always yummy and pjs are always comfy. This vibrant birthday party by Paula of Frog Prince Paperie, combined these two elements to create a one of a kind party for a group of lucky little girls, sure to make for the perfect Saturday!

At the highly styled pancake and pajama party from our first issue of Festivities Magazine, coffee was definitely optional with all this eye popping color at breakfast.  Hot pink and orange against a neutral white made color the star of the party and a big impression on our little guests.

The party was all about pancakes and pajamas, and with a bit of an upscale edge, we made a big nod to the birthday girl’s favorite thing: hotel room service. Hot pink melamine serving trays and a room service menu with the pancake selection for the morning were set for each girl along with a specially personalized place card.

Partylycyous supplied the bright orange runners for our table, and Buds, Etc.  created the beautiful pomander flower arrangements and chair sashes for the table and the buffet.

There were lots of breakfast treats presented to the girls on the table and on the buffet. Donuts were served on a jewel-topped sticks, fuzzy little bunny slippers were made from candy-dipped and coconut rolled brownies, and sugar cookies set into pancake stacks to eat. There was also a selection of fresh fruits, cereals served from push up pops, and three different types of pancakes to choose from.

And to make the girls feel even more special, we used real champagne glasses—usually reserved for adults—to raise a breakfast toast.

Each girl received a specially-made pajama shirt with her initial as a party favor. They were all so excited about the new tops, they put them on over their pajamas when they got them!

The printables in this party are now available in my shop http://frogprincepaperie.etsy.com.

Kid’s Room Design Trends for 2012!

In her latest article for SheKnows.com, Rosenberry Rooms’ owner, Susie Fougerousse comments on the trends in design for children’s spaces this year. One of Susie’s favorite things about designing kids’ rooms is that there are no rules or limitations when it comes to designing a space for a child, you can really just have fun. She also explains that although there are always hot colors and popular patterns, most children’s themes never really go out of style, they sometimes simply need a refresher!

With the help of some other creative minds like Aaron Christensen of Embellishments Kids, Naomi Alon and Gerri Panebianco of Little Crown Interiors and Katy Mimari of Caden Lane, you will find a few fresh takes on these classic motifs. Also, make sure to check out the full article (plus photo inspiration) over on SheKnows.com!

Circus Charm

“The darling of the Pinterest crowd birthday themes- Circus, will edge its way off the cake table and into the kiddies rooms. The big top combination of eclectic patterns, animal motifs, vintage typography and the classic stripe will charm the little ones. The market’s dazzling array of iron cribs and traditional wooden crib styles will lend nicely to this fun and dynamic theme. Honey toned yellows, teal blues, grayed greens and faded reds are the incoming colors of the circus fans. But don’t be surprised if you see circus themes in soft pastels and unexpected color ways. Sorry clowns, you’re still too scary to be chic again. Maybe next year.” – Aaron Christensen

Science Style

“We’ve seen old school items like maps and globes play heavily into children’s decor, now it’s time to broaden the mind through the other sciences. The addition of biology, ecology, entomology and zoology will compliment the geology trend and bring brains, as well as beauty, to kids room design. Plants, bugs, molecules, hexagons and all things scientific are garnering interest. Brilliant minded rooms will call out for all the colors of the rainbow, in muted tones.” – Aaron Christensen

Forest Flair

“Moms, Dads and designers alike will applaud the trending of Mother Nature’s graphic palette going beyond the tree silhouette and birds, birds and more birds (yes, that includes owls). Forest friends like the fox, bear and raccoon are traveling into the scene and they’re bringing all kinds of patterns with them. You’ll see more wood grain, colorful florals, botanicals and oversized retro variations of plaid mixing in with the funky geometrics we see now. Decor items with a simple, made at summer camp feeling to them will also capture our hearts.” – Aaron Christensen

Chevron Chic

Chevron has definitely made a name for itself in the design world this year. This retro zigzag design has been updated with current colors and is showing up everywhere in children’s rooms from the floors to the walls. ”The mod print brings a bold statement on rugs, curtains and bedding and is an easy way to add a pop of color to any room design,” according to bedding designer Katy Mimari of Caden Lane.

Fun Fonts

The personalize-it craze is another trend in kids’ room design that is here to stay. Naomi Alon and Gerri Panebianco, the design team that makes up Little Crown Interiors, a full-service interior design firm, say that finding new and fresh ways to display a child’s name is one of the year’s biggest trends. Update this idea by trying new things like an oversized wall monogram as the focal point of the room or using the classic wooden wall letters but in fun, innovative fonts for a fresh take on a tried-and-true trend.

Looking forward to seeing what 2013 has in store! Happy decorating!

High Point Furniture Market Round Up!

High Point Furniture Market round 2 – check! We spent the last 2 days roaming the showrooms of High Point Market, falling in love with some amazing new designers, checking out the new products from our current vendors, and eating a little too much free candy. 48 hours and several blisters later, we found some really great pieces that I can’t wait to share with you and some that will be added to RosenberryRooms.com as soon as they become available!

Our first stop was the gorgeous Young America Showroom. Not only did we get to see some of the current collections in person but they also announced they are introducing two brand new collections and some new finish options! Here a few sneak peeks of what is to come as well as a look at some of the beautiful pieces you can find now on RosenberryRooms.com.

Switching gears a little from traditional to more modern furnishings, we stopped by the ZUO showroom. The first word that came to mind when we saw this ultramodern collection in person was…COOL! The pieces are unlike anything you’ve ever seen and would be great for a teenager’s room or kid’s playroom making for the ultimate hip hangout. From high tech bubble lighting to denim couches with british flag throw pillows, we were really impressed by the innovation and creativity of this line. You can find some of these pieces now at Rosenberry Rooms!

That red couch is actually made up of a few separate sectionals and comes in multiple colors!

In keeping with the modern, WOW pieces, we also ran into some really cool lighting as well as some furniture with a fun color blocking style by Oggetti! We are hoping to add some of these pieces soon to the site!

Remember those crazy chairs from our last High Point visit by Polart? Well they were back with more styles and more colors! Plus a new addition of these kidney bean shaped ottomans. Would you put these statement pieces in your home?

Ok, let’s jump back in to the more practical but equally exciting pieces, shall we? A visit to Sugarboo Designs showroom always brightens my mood and makes me forget about my aching feet for a least a few minutes. These vintage inspired prints and decor are perfect for kid’s rooms and really for any room in your home. A cheerful quote, a friendly reminder, a stylish accent and more from Sugarboo Designs always make for a welcome addition.

I always knew I loved the selection of painted mirrors we have on RosenberryRooms.com but after seeing them in person, I’m an even bigger fan. The endless array of color options and the whimsical, decorative designs are perfect for a child’s room! You can create your very own storybook theme with these playful mirrors that just scream quality, style and most importantly, fun!

And last but not least, just a few pieces that were too cool not to share. Practicality has its place at High Point Market but creativity and a whole lot of “over the top” pieces definitely make their mark and these furnishings do just that! I mean, how awesome are these painted branches chandeliers from Wish Designs USA?

Or these poufs made completely out of colored rubber bands from Dreamweavers?

Those are just a few of the amazing, beautiful and somewhat crazy pieces we saw at High Point Furniture Market. I hope you had fun following along and would love to hear what you think about them! Tell us in the comments below or share with us on facebook!

A Nautical Nursery by HGTV’s Erinn Valencich!

Rosenberry Rooms had the pleasure of working with Erinn Valencich of Erinn V Design Group and design expert for HGTV on a nautical inspired nursery design! Erinn was creating the room for a close friend who wanted a preppy, tailored design with a nautical touch. Erinn was first inspired by our Coastal Living Etagere by Stanley Furniture and used this piece as the basis for her design. With a navy, white and red color palette and various other furnishings and decor elements from Rosenberry Rooms, the room came together beautifully! I’m so thrilled to share the images of the completed nursery and also a little more about Erinn’s background and what inspired her to become an interior designer.

Enjoy!

In this shot, you see the Luxe Glider by Jennifer Delonge, the MyHaven Double Dresser with Changing Station by Young America and the Stars Nightstand by Alligator Enterprise. What nautical themed room is complete without some maritime wall art? On the walls are the Anchor, Life Ring and Sailboat Framed Canvas Reproductions by Doodlefish.

I love the star-shaped drawer knobs on the nightstand!

The gorgeous crib is the Built-to-Grow Crib by Young America placed in between two of the Coastal Living Etageres which inspired the design of the space. The Classic Compass Rug by Nejad Rugs really pulls the theme together!

Darling details such as the Dachshund Bookends by Jonathan Adler and the Personalized Storage Bins from The Macbeth Collection help to add style and functionality to the space.

And now, a little more about the designer of this gorgeous nursery, Erinn V.!

What inspired you to become an interior designer, and ultimately to found Erinn V Design Group?

I have always loved homes and design. As a small child I was designing my perfect horse farm, and would spend hours getting the scale just right of the barn, and the size of the stalls, and figuring out how many horses I could fit in a certain direction.  This of course grew to designing my first apartment, at which point friends would come and visit and say “you should be an interior designer!” and it all started there.

With one client, I started my business, which grew by my own PR and marketing skills.

I have since opened my first store, Erinn V Maison in Los Angeles that sells my furniture collection and an assortment of curted rugs, accessories, lighting, art, etc.

What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

My favorite part of the day is creating a new design project. I love starting a new project and diving in to figure out what the vibe will be as well as what the needs of the project are.

What is your most memorable design project?

I am currently building a 24 million-dollar home in the Sunset Strip area of LA. This is definitely so far my most memorable project because of the scale as well as the architectural integrity. We are lucky to have Belzberg architects on the project, and a great team all around!

If you could design a space for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Justin Bieber.

What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?

The fabric show in Lake Como, Italy this spring. Gorgeous!!!

Where is your favorite place you have travelled to?

South of France.

Where in the world are you dying to go next?

Back to the South of France!

What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?

Three of my favorite items would have to be the Dax Table Lamp, the Leander Changing Table by Natart and the Retro Swirl Playground Rug in Pink & White by Surya.

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?

We are expanding our furniture collection to Dallas and will be in the Cory Pope showroom this fall!

Now, just for fun:

Favorite Food – Pasta

Favorite TV Show – True Blood

Favorite Weekend Activity – Riding horses

Favorite Musician/Band – Tool

New Little House Tailored Collection by Annette Tatum!

Little House is the baby and child division of renowned bedding designer Annette Tatum. As a mother of four, Annette Tatum created the Little House line to give mothers inspirational prints and patterns that are inspired by and embrace the personality and innocence of a child. Brand new to RosenberryRooms.com is the Little House Tailored Collection which includes fresh, crisp and beautiful designs for both babies and kids’ rooms and for both boys and girls.

Here are a few of my favorites from the new line but you will definitely want to see the whole collection!

Modern and cherry, the Wave Orange Collection from Little House is the perfect addition to any girl’s nursery or bedroom. With beautiful tones of coral, peachy pink and whimsical yet modern patterns this charming girl’s bedding collection and will add just the right amount of contemporary style to any child’s room. The Wave Collection also comes in shades of blue offering just the right touch of maritime style to your son’s nursery.

And don’t forget the matching Moses Basket!

Also new to the Little House Tailored Collection is the Cane Petal bedding. Available in both crib and kid’s bedding sizes, this geometric and modern collection was inspired by pink roses entwined on a beautiful bamboo trellis.

This collection also comes in gorgeous royal blue!

For a lighter, more whimsical style, the Cloud Majestic collection is another one of my favorites. This collection from Little House, inspired by a clear blue sky, is light and airy and boasts whimsically drawn clouds complemented by a stripe and key pattern. It’s available in crib, twin and full/queen sizes as well.

To see the full Little House Tailored Collection, visit RosenberryRooms.com or click here!

Hampton Designer Showhouse Nursery Design!

The Hampton Designer Showhouse is a celebration in creative design and a definite destination for anyone interested in seeing the best in interior design. A place where creativity overrides practicality, you are sure to see some over the top design ideas, incredibly unique furniture and decor items and of course, some things you will love and some things you may totally hate, but it’s all in good, expensive fun ;) . The 2012 Hampton Designer Showhouse featured work by over 20 different designers but today I want to highlight a specific designer, the one who created the nursery in the house, Tamara Kaye-Honey of House of Honey.

Tamara Kaye-Honey left her native Canada for New York City in 1996 to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. After graduating, she was hired as a clothing buyer for Bergdorf Goodman. In 2003, she moved to Los Angeles with her husband and one-year-old daughter, and so began her foray into interior design. Tamara is inspired by design and architecture from both the past and present. She customizes, re-works and reinvents pieces to create spaces that are fresh and playful, yet retain a timeless quality. In 2010 she opened House of Honey, a home decor shop and design studio as an ode to her signature style, “The New Vintage”.

Here is the initial concept sketch of the nursery design…

How amazing is this? The mix of patterns seems to really work as they all have a coordinating color and the gold and brass accents add a touch of glam to the already luxurious abode.

Brass butterfly on the ceiling? Why not!

The gorgeous nursery furniture was actually designed by Tamara as well for the contemporary children’s furniture company, Nurseryworks. The Uptown Collection playfully weaves classic inspirations with contemporary tastes. Bold, mirthful pieces draw visual inspiration from 15th century Britain, and are adeptly designed to keep up with your growing child. Swoon-worthy style for years. The Uptown Collection comes in two youthful and sophisticated cream/black lacquer combinations, both exquisitely elevated by high-contrast reveals and over-scaled brass hardware.

Here are a few more photos of the rest of the room. Enjoy!

So tell us, what do you think of this design?
