Past posts in our Creative Contributors section have included interviews with interior designers, party and event stylists, professional photographers and magazine editors but we have a new branch of creativity we wanted to add in to the mix – cooking! Who better to start with then Erica Lea, creator of the blog, Cooking for Seven! As the title implies, Erica, only 21 years old, grew up cooking for a family of seven (Dad, Mom, three sisters, one brother, and herself). She found her joy in cooking from her father’s love for new and interesting flavors and her mother’s ability to cook simple and comforting food without a recipe. If you keep reading, you will get the chance to meet the adorable Erica and you will find that she focuses just as much on beautiful photography as she does on delicious recipes. Stay tuned for some of these tasty recipes from Erica in our new Recipes section!
My mom is definitely my first inspiration for becoming a cook. She allowed me to knead bread when I was eight years old. She let me experiment with deviled eggs and other easy dishes. I always felt welcome in the kitchen. Funny as it may seem, my husband, Reuben, indirectly inspired me to found Cooking for Seven. Before we were a couple but interested in each other (in our teens), he was very much into eating healthy, whole foods. Of course I became interested as well, and started to love cooking healthy meals and desserts. I wanted to share my discoveries, so I started blogging about them!
What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
I love it when people email me or comment on my blog, telling me how they’ve tried one of my recipes and enjoyed it. That’s my goal – to share recipes. I love so others can enjoy them as well.
What is your most memorable or favorite recipe?
Biscuits + Gravy (from scratch). As a little girl, I always requested it as my birthday meal. I still love biscuits and gravy, and so does my husband!
If you could cook for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Someone who is in desperate need of a good, square meal. It feels good to be needed.
What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?
I’m like a kid in a candy store when it comes to beautiful cookbooks. I had to limit myself to three last time I was at the library. “How to Be a Domestic Goddess” by Nigella Lawson was one of my choices. So many scrumptious recipes in there!
Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?
For part of our honeymoon, my husband and I visited The Grand Tetons in Wyoming. They are the most beautiful mountains I’ve ever seen.
Where in the world are you dying to go next?
I would LOVE to visit Europe someday – Ireland, England, France, Italy…But on a more practical note, I’ve always wanted to visit Washington and Oregon.
What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?
Now, just for fun
Thai coconut red curry with peanut sauce.
Favorite TV Show:
My husband and I are really enjoying Top Gear and Merlin. And (my guilty pleasure) I enjoy What Not to Wear on occasion.
Oh dear, do I have to pick just one? One of my all-time favorites is Rebecca by Alfred Hitchcock. So well written/acted/directed. But I enjoy my share of action movies as well.
Favorite Weekend Activity:
Relaxing and enjoying the free time with Reuben.
Relient K, hands down. But I also enjoy Anberlin, She & Him and Lights. I’m horrible at choosing just one.
