Meet Marian of Sweetopia!

If you love sweets, decorating, parties, and just plain cute ideas, you have to meet Marian of Sweetopia! Marian is the ultimate cookie decorator and she wants you to share in her passion too so she regularly posts video tutorials, recipes and how-tos on her blog (Sweetopia.net). We had the pleasure of interviewing Marian and she shared with us some pictures of a few of her favorite creations. The detail in her art is amazing and if you’re feeling crafty, definitely check out her blog and watch some of her tutorials and you could become an expert too!

What inspired you to become a sweets stylist and ultimately to found Sweetopia?

My fascination with making sweets began almost 10 years ago, when a illness prevented me from engaging in physical fitness; what I had previously spent much of my free time doing. I needed to keep busy, and as gingerbread houses had always charmed me, I decided to try my hand at one. The first house I made wasn’t the prettiest, but I was hooked! The more I made them, the more I found there was to learn. Thank goodness the illness only lasted about six months, and I’m grateful for it now, because it led me to find one of my favorite hobbies.

It’s because of my older brother that I started blogging on Sweetopia. He noticed that whenever I made sweets for events with family and friends, there would inevitably be some people who would want me to show them how to make the various sweets, and as I didn’t have the time to teach everyone individually, he suggested I start a blog showing how I made them there.   I originally planned to blog about more than making sweets, such as my love for fashion and home decor, and although I still mention those here and there, Sweetopia has emerged into mainly tutorials on making decorated cookies, cupcakes and other sweets.

What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

Without a doubt, there are two main favorite parts of my daily work; the first is putting the finishing touches on my sweets… It’s always fun to see everything come together. The second is interacting with other people on the various social media avenues – It’s a treat to connect with others all over the world who share similar interests.

What is your most memorable sweets creation?

Hands down, I’ll never forget the one Christmas I made 20 gingerbread houses complete with all the items for a Christmas cocktail inside each house. It was a great deal of work, but well worth it in the end!

If you could create your confections for anyone in the world, who would it be?

You know who I’d love to make cookies for? Ina Garten, a.k.a. The Barefoot Contessa.

What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?

Most recently I attended the Bonnie Gordon College Cake Show, where a multitude of extravagant and gorgeous cakes were displayed. I’ll be inspired for months to come!

Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?

Can’t pick an absolute fave, but Switzerland and the Caribbean are up at the top.

Where in the world are you dying to go next?

Australia and New Zealand.

What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?

I love the owl night light (have it in our house right now).

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?

I’m looking forward to creating more video tutorials, especially about cookie decorating.

Now, just for fun:

Favorite Food – Chocolate

Favorite TV Show – The Barefoot Contessa

Favorite Movie – The Shawshank Redemption

Favorite Weekend Activity – Hiking in the forest

Favorite Musician/Band – Fleetwood Mac
