Nursery Notations is a site devoted to helping mothers and designers find unique items for children and their rooms. It’s definitely one of those bookmark it, check it out every day kind of blogs for me! That being said, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to interview the creator of Nursery Notations, Andrika King! Andrika also has her own interior design company, Andrika King Design which specializes in creating unique nurseries, children’s rooms and playrooms influenced by adult design. Check out a few of her beautiful designs below and be sure to follow her on Pinterest too, she gives some great design inspiration!
I actually owned a 2700 sq ft children’s store in Manhattan Beach for 5 years before I started Andrika King Design. I went to design school while I still had the store and officially started my blog Nursery Notations a few weeks after my son was born when we closed the store. It was a natural way for me to transition out of retail into design. Honestly I made the transition so that I could have a more flexible schedule in order to spend time with my children.
What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
My favorite part of my job is seeing my clients and their kids actually living in the spaces that I help them design.
Do you have any advice for other working moms?
If you work from home, try to have specific days or times scheduled that you “just work” and “just play”. The more scheduled I am the more balanced I feel. You will always have times when you have to talk to a vendor or client while at the park but if possible, when you are with your kids try to focus all your attention on them.
What is your most memorable design project?
I love designing my children’s rooms because they evolve constantly. As for a client’s, I worked on a project in Thousand Oaks for two girls and the mom loved color and was not afraid to go bold. These rooms are still some of my favorites.
If you could design a room for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Kate and William hands down…but then again they’d probably want something really traditional. I think Tom Brady and Giselle would be fun and willing to try some ideas outside of the box.
What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?
I’m always inspired by my travels.
Where is your favorite place you have travelled to?
I love the Amalfi coast. You can’t beat the food, culture, weather and people watching.
Where in the world are you dying to go next?
I’d like to make another trip down to South America. I lived in Chile for 6 months in college and have not been back since.
What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?
You all have a wonderful selection of décor and bedding. So many styles for every budget. Whenever I need to find a rug, my first stop is your site because you have them classified so nicely. Some rugs which I have used in projects include: The Romatic Lace Rosa Rug and See Saw Rug by The Rug Market and the Ribbon Round Rug in Orange and Pink by Not Neutral.
Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?
I’m working on about 10 projects now, four will be ready to be photographed in the next few weeks. All of the spaces are fabulous and will photograph beautifully! I can’t wait to share. The nursery that I mentioned above was featured in the May 2012 issue of BabyTalk Magazine. It is my first published work.
