For all you party stylists and party lovers, I am so thrilled to introduce today, Kelly Lyden, founder of The Party Dress and the Well Heeled Hostess (how cute are those names by the way?)! The Party Dress, which is inspired by Kelly’s stationary company, the WH Hostess, focuses on everyday ideas, children’s birthday parties, theme parties and special events such as bridal and baby showers, weddings and more! Kelly provides daily eye candy and entertaining tips to her readers to encourage them to get creative. She has been featured as a Doer of the Week for Martha Stewart’s Dreamers into Doers and a special guest for Project Nursery’s Dish & Design Spreecast! Meet Kelly!
What inspired you to become a party stylist and ultimately to found The Party Dress?
I have always had a passion for parties. I founded The Party Dress ~ Inspirations from the Well-Heeled Hostess in 2009 while in desperate search for a creative outlet, which was expanded into a quarterly magazine in 2011. I wanted to create a place where people could come to be inspired to create special events in their own lives.
WH Hostess, my social stationery company, soon followed and my business grew very quickly. We specialize in fresh modern invitation designs that can inspire whole party themes, and are known for creating charming coordinating party accessories. My home is now covered with pictures of centerpiece ideas, stationery orders and inspirational books….and I couldn’t be happier!
My work has been featured on Martha Stewart, HGTV.com, InStyle Magazine, and numerous on-line publications and blogs including Nesting Newbies, Hostess with the Mostess, Amy Atlas, P is for Party, Celebrations at Home, CupcakeMag, Little Red Bus, and so many more!
What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
I truly love the design process, which is inclusive of both party designs and stationery designs. Starting with a simple idea and expanding it into something that is “just perfect” for the client – it’s a great feeling!
What is your most memorable party design project?
One of my favorite design projects was a photo shoot for Nesting Newbies Magazine. They asked me to style a kids party that reflected my personal style. A black, white and Kelly green tea party was born, and my god-daughter and pup served as models. It was a very fun and creative day!
If you could style a party for anyone in the world, who would it be?
There are a ton of celebrities that I would love to work with, but as a party stylist who doesn’t have kids just yet, I truly want to plan amazing parties for my own children.
Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?
Abroad – Positano, Italy. Domestic – Napa Valley, CA.
Where in the world are you dying to go next?
I would love to visit Australia, I am constantly inspired by the creativity and style I see coming from down under. Bora Bora is also at the top of my list.
What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?
Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?
The 5th issue of The Party Dress Magazine is launching on March 12th – we are very excited about it! Great articles and inspiration for Spring events from some of the top party bloggers and event stylists.
WH Hostess is constantly evolving, and our latest project is our wholesale line. It features a collection of fabulous stationery products, in some amazing patterns. It’s very exciting to think that you may be seeing the WH Hostess name in boutiques across the country!
