We were lucky enough to snag an interview with the ultimate “Sweets Stylist”, Amy Atlas! Her party designs and unique dessert tables are so eye-catching and unforgettably sweet. I have no doubt that once you see some of her designs (if you haven’t already) you will be immediately hooked and inspired! Let me just say, she has inspired many a pin on our Pinterest board because I definitely am not talented enough to create this level of detail in real life! So check out our interview with Amy and be sure to visit her site and consider booking her for your next “sweet” event!
My love for sweets definitely inspired me. It was always my favorite part of the meal and I felt it never received its proper fanfare. I also loved to and would often plan parties for family and friends. I decided about six years ago to tap into my creative side and merge my love for sweets and my love for design.
What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
I think for me what is most rewarding is that I am doing something that I love. Each day is different and I am surrounded by sweets. What’s not to love about that?
Do you have any advice for other working moms?
It is a constant balancing act. And it is hard. My best advice to working moms is to give up on the notion of being perfect at everything. Unless you have unlimited help, you just can’t do everything. Once I accepted that, I felt more comfortable with how I balanced work and motherhood.
What is your most memorable party design project?
We did a carnival themed party for a little boy’s first birthday. The client wanted something completely outside of the scope of what I normally do. She really pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and the table came out amazing!
If you could style a party for anyone in the world, who would it be?
My grandmother. She is basically the person who taught me how to bake. Some of my fondest childhood memories are baking in her kitchen. I wish I could show her what that love of sweets has inspired me to do.
What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?
We recently created a dessert table for the kids and families at the Ronald McDonald house with Icing Smiles. These children are so incredibly strong and brave. It warmed my heart and made me realize that every day is a gift. It was very special to do something that put a smile on their face, even if it was just for a night.
Where is your favorite place you have travelled to?
There are so many places that inspire me both culturally and professionally. Anguilla is like heaven on earth if you need time to decompress. However, I will never tire of Paris because of the endless design inspiration. Oh..and Belgium for the chocolate!
Where in the world are you dying to go next?
Australia. We have an amazing following there and would love to meet all of our fans.
What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?
The personalized wall decals are fantastic. A quick and easy way to bring character to a space.
Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?
Yes! We have a book that is being published by Hyperion and will be coming out in Spring 2012. It has consumed our life for the past 10 month’s. These tables were created specifically for the book and brought to life concepts that I had floating in my mind for years! It was truly a dream come true. In the book, I deconstruct all of the tables and show everyone how to do it at home so it is very approachable, even to someone who is first tapping into their creative side.
