Meet Jeff Hutsell of Levels of Discovery Children’s Furniture!

Levels of Discovery is an adorable line of creative, kid-sized furniture! The amount of detail and little “extras”, as founder Jeff Hutsell calls them, make these products so much fun for children and also make this line a great choice for parents. Levels of Discovery brings innovation and fun to children’s furniture with timeless themes that will look great in your child’s room or playroom for years and years. By offering coordinating pieces, this line, found on RosenberryRooms.com, gives you amazing flexibility and endless options to decorate your room and inspire your little one’s imagination. I absolutely love the hidden elements Jeff adds to each of his pieces. They really serve to create an element of surprise each time your child plays with these products. From a hidden little green pea under the seat of the Royal Princess Rocking Chair, to the sound of a race car zooming around the track when you rock in the Race Car Rocking Chair, the level of detail (or discovery) in these products is undeniable and a clear representation of Jeff’s passion for creating this line. So without further ado, I introduce the founder of Levels of Discovery, Jeff Hutsell!

Enjoy!

How would you define the Levels of Discovery style philosophy?

We bring creativity, fun and joy to the world of children’s furniture, with unique products of the highest quality at an excellent value! We design FUNctional furniture that appeals to both kids and their parents/grandparents. We want to help create memories that will last forever by offering keepsake-quality “heirlooms-to-be” – each with a little something extra!

What inspired you to become a designer and start a business? Why did you choose to design and make children’s furniture?

After spending most of my adult life in the development of emotion-based products for Hallmark, The Franklin Mint and Enesco, I decided that I wanted to bring fun and innovative children’s products to the marketplace that are truly something special. Thinking back over the years with my own three children, I realized that there is nothing so wonderful as to see the look of sheer delight on a child’s face when they’ve discovered something new and unexpected!

The name of our company comes from a lesson I learned about creating products that will touch people’s lives. Anyone can produce a product that is exactly what it appears to be. I want to take that a step further and create products that allow children to discover the “unexpected”!  Let me use an example from our Rock A Buddies™ product line to show you what I mean. Our award-winning Schoolhouse Rocker has a fun “school” theme with primary colors, apple finials and movable abacus beads to help little ones learn counting and colors. Take another look and you’ll find a flip-up desk (great for reading and writing) and an armrest pencil box with a sliding lid. Pull the chalk on the seat and the music box plays the “ABC Song!” Look again, and you’ll find an understamp beneath the seat that can be “personalized” with the child’s name, the name of the gift-giver and the special occasion when the chair was received. I think you get the idea!

What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

I really enjoy the creative process, seeing new concepts evolve from first sketch to finished product. I also enjoy talking to our customers on a regular basis.

If you had to pick a favorite design from your collection, what would it be?

I have two favorites – The Always a Princess and Firefighter Collections because of their timeless appeal.

What sets Levels of Discovery apart from other designers in your industry?

Our attention to detail and our ability to create products that allow children to discover the unexpected – all of the little extras!

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

We’ll be introducing a new line/category this fall that will make great holiday gifts for the little ones!
