How would you define your style philosophy?

Vintage Prep. Being from the south, I grew up preppy but I love to add whimsical and vintage touches to my environment.

What inspired you to become a designer and start a business?

It is a story that you hear a lot but I really believe that children can inspire women in a whole new way. After having my daughter I noticed a void in the market for clean and simple furnishings and accessories for the nursery. I actually started by researching for a book I wanted to create on nurseries, but when I found nothing inspiring, I changed directions and started thinking about product, product, product!

Why did you choose to design and make nursery furniture?

In 2005 when I started Nurseryworks, the nursery was a room that had not been thought of differently in a very long time. I thought it was about time! Several years later there was validation  for me when other companies began to create great contemporary products for kids…I knew then it was not a trend, but a real movement.

What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

I love two parts of the day the most: the evening, when I make my list of what I want to accomplish the next day and then the morning when I jump into the list. And nothing tops reading to my children before they snuggle up for the night.

If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection, what would it be?

It has to be our new tree bookcase—it is so sculptural and feels like an art installation. And it is very functional—it can hold over 100 books!

What sets NurseryWorks apart from other furniture designers?

We are really pioneers in this field and customization has always been a hallmark of our designs. With our carving, wood, lacquer and fabric choices, no two Nurseryworks nurseries ever have to look the same! And we care about longevity, so most of our pieces have a life outside of the child’s room. I’ve seen our rockers and dressers in almost every room in the house!

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

We will be launching two new collections at the international contemporary furniture fair in New York in May—the Hollis collection and the uptown collection. Both are super swoon-worthy, I have to say!

Absolutely loved the tree bookcase and want to show it, along with some other of her products, on my nursery design blog.
Another thing I like about your whole company is the variety of products you offer. Do you offer an affiliate program?
