Meet Mike Shabtai of The Rug Market

A bold rug can be the perfect finishing touch to any room in your home. Some of the freshest and brightest kid’s area rugs I’ve seen are from The Rug Market America. Their rugs are extremely imaginative and fun for any kid’s room or playroom. The Rug Market’s Shaggy Raggy Rugs are a particular favorite among our customers because of their durability and versatility, not to mention their vivid color options. We have hundreds of options of kid’s rugs for you to choose from at RosenberryRooms.com to ensure you get the perfect one for you!  All of our nursery rugs are durable enough to last through the wear and tear of daily life while remaining stylish, colorful and unique. Today I would like to introduce to you the designer of these fresh, fun rugs from The Rug Market, Mike Shabtai.

Enjoy!

How would you define the Rug Market’s style philosophy?

All about trends styles and colors. That’s what we strive toward. We are always looking to the future, creating the best designs possible and embracing innovation and change.

What inspired you to become a designer and start a business?

I was an observer of people in fine clothes, creative and colorful store merchandising and what was in fashion. All this drove me toward a design-centered business. I have always enjoyed designing, fashion and colors. It has always been a passion of mine so I fused it into my business model.

Why did you choose to design and make rugs?

I wanted to go into women’s fashion. However, because I was in the rug business doing retail and I understood rugs, it was a natural choice. I believe in doing what you know best but I felt rugs were boring in designs and colors in the 80’s so why not bring the idea of fashion and trends into area rugs? I decided to make rug designs fresh, bright and fun; so I developed a line that would be all those in one.

What is your favorite part of your daily work…when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

Working with my designers, shopping for ideas and planning what’s next are all very rewarding. However, what I find most rewarding is when I see our products in catalogs and stores being displayed and hearing reps, customers and editorials bragging and praising how beautiful our line is.

If you had to pick a favorite design from your collection, what would it be?

There are two styles within our collections to which I am drawn. One is Whimsical Iconic and the other is Sophisticated Subtle with textural looks. Both styles can be found in kids or adult lines.

What sets The Rug Market apart from other rug designers?

We thrive on style, color and trends. What separates us from others is the fact that we always walk that fine line between safe and innovative by often introducing colors for which the market may not yet be ready.

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

We do many rugs for different uses, not just kids rugs. For the kids’ division we always have new designs 6 times a year. We introduce many designs for baby, kids and teenagers. It is hard to pinpoint one particular design because the line is so diverse that it is hard to just do one theme.

As far as overall and additions to our collection, yes, we have a new swatch program that we have introduced to help designers/buyers with their customers pick the rugs that would best fit them. Our outdoor line has taken off and we have many new, exciting and fresh looks to be featured in Chicago at the Casual Market. Our new Natural collection, which we started introducing in High Point, has a really clean yet fresh look for the modern day!!
