Meet Danielle Holmes of Kinder Cashmere

One of the most important things about a baby blanket is how soft and comfy it is for your baby, right? Well you can’t get much softer than cashmere! The baby blankets from Kinder Cashmere are made with 100% pure cashmere and promise to be lavishly soft and cozy for your little one for years. One of the other stand-out features of Kinder Cashmere’s baby blankets are their bright and bold colors. As a break from the traditional baby pink and baby blue hues, these baby blankets are made with fantastically bright colors and adorable themes for both boys and girls. Danielle Holmes, creator and designer of Kinder Cashmere, wanted to create something that was new and unique in the baby blanket industry and she did just that! How would you define the Kinder Cashmere’s style philosophy?

Colorful. Whimsical. Simply sophisticated.

What inspired you to become a designer and start a business?

I was working at an interior design firm and was inspired after seeing all of the craftsmen of Maine doing their own niche businesses and decided to make something all on my own. Once I found the cashmere I wanted to use, the bold colors spoke to me and I wanted to create something for babies that wasn’t the norm. My husband and I knew we wanted to start a family eventually and I anticipated that babies would be such a big part of my life, as well as friends and families lives, so I went for it.

Why did you choose to design cashmere baby blankets?

I liked the simplicity of a blanket, but the idea that it could last a lifetime for newborn babies. Also, I was able to make the blankets and pillows on my sewing machine.

What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

I feel good about hearing the news about new arrivals.  I enjoy receiving orders from repeat customers that I have never met who cross the globe.  I am impressed that I did this whole concept from start to finish on my own- I can’t imagine doing it now with 3 kids!

If you had to pick a favorite design from your collection, what would it be?

My first, Barnyard, will always be special, though it was really fun to design layette. Baby clothes are always so sweet.

What sets Kinder Cashmere apart from other baby blanket designers?

I think that the color palette is bold, but the design is simple and chic.  If you don’t want the traditional baby blue, pale pink or white- k-c’s cashmere is a fresh alternative.  When I started, all of the other bedding and cashmere companies’ palettes were more subdued, now the trend is definitely more colorful.

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

The layettes, while not new, are worth checking out. The designs stay true to the barnyard style, but are in paler hues.  Maybe one day I will design baby bedding, textiles and wallpaper.
